Nutritional fact of the week: Health Benefits of Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds contain powerful antioxidants that protect the body and brain from free radical damage. They're also an excellent source of magnesium, iron, zinc and copper. Each of these nutrients is important for brain health:

Zinc: This element is crucial for nerve signaling. Zinc deficiency has been linked to many neurological conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, depression and Parkinson's disease.

Magnesium: Magnesium is essential for learning and memory. Low magnesium levels are linked to many neurological diseases, including migraines, depression and epilepsy.

Copper: Your brain uses copper to help control nerve signals. And when copper levels are out of whack, there's a higher risk of neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's.

Iron: Iron deficiency is often characterized by brain fog and impaired brain function.

Four Exercises This Week (Illustrated in pictures on the bottom of this blog):

1. Cardio: Squat Jumps x 15

2. Cardio + Strength: High Plank Jacks x 15

3. Abs: Army Flutter Kicks (1 minute)

4. Cardio: Around the World Frog Squat Hops (1 minute)

Last week's nutritional fact: Health Benefits of Chia Seeds

1. Help Stabilize Blood Sugar: one of the benefits of chia seeds is that they can help you control your blood sugar. The majority of the carbohydrates in chia seeds come from fiber, which doesn't make your blood sugar go up, making them a safe ingredient for diabetics!
2. Improve Brain Function:
Chia seeds are full of brain benefiting nutrients! They include healthy omega-3 ALA which your brain uses to make DHA fatty acids (a necessity for good brain function). Chia seeds also are a complete protein full of the nine essential amino acids needed to keep your mood stable and your brain working at its best. And chia seeds are full of antioxidants, which help fight free radicals and save your brain from all the damage free radicals can cause. Lastly, as mentioned, chia seeds release glucose slowly, which helps it get to your brain to be used as energy.
3. Aid Weight Loss: Chia seeds tend to absorb 10 times their own weight in liquids. You'll feel full without getting the extra calories.
4. Reduce Inflammation:Chia seeds are wonderfully full of helpful flavanols and other nutrients which act as strong antioxidants. These nutrients help reduce inflammation in your body.
5. Aid Digestion:They naturally help improve your GI health because they're so fibrous.
